From the Language Art Department

Dear Parents,

Greetings from Language Arts.  This is Mr. Gonzales letting the parents know a few things:

  1. The Summer Reading Projects will be posted soon.  I just received the last of the projects from the new families and I will be posting via RenWeb as soon as possible.  Amazing projects will be exhibited on the walls by the library, in the library or on YouTube via a closed channel accessible by me alone.
  2. Please check your children’s planners to know what is going on in Language Arts.  After that please ask them to show you their composition books.
  3. The composition book has a log for personal (at home) reading and for reviewing words given during the week.  Both should have signatures.  We’ve been rehearsing having them in their possession, taking them to class, keeping them in order, and showing me they have them formatted as needed for this class.  Journal entries will be in the back, SAT words and sentence examples in the front.  They can decorate it as they please within the parameters of good taste.
  4. Between the logs are very basic rules for behavior in class and what can be expected from them for success in Language Arts.
  5. In their composition books you’ll find a Reading Log for their personal novels.  At least once a week you should be able to see them reading somewhere at home and sign off on that being done under your supervision.
  6. Along with the reading log is a Vocabulary Check page so you can see they have been given words and should study them.  Any of these words can be practiced with the parents’ supervision so the student can prosper.  Spelling and use of the word should be the priority.  Grammar, editing, punctuation and writing skills will be done in class and on longer projects.

If there are any questions, your student is absent or you need more information, please e-mail me as soon as possible: jaime.gonzales@gsnsa.org

Thank you & God Bless,
